This unique travelling installation will transform the Kravis Family Plaza
November 21 – December 29, 2024
WEST PALM BEACH, FL – By special arrangement with Creos, the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts is thrilled to bring the large-scale interactive travelling art exhibition, Mi Casa, Your Casa 2.0 to West Palm Beach. Mi Casa, Your Casa 2.0, created by Esrawe + Cadena and powered by Creos will be on display at the Kravis Center from November 23 to December 29, 2024, and will be operational daily from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. on the Kravis Family Plaza. Mi Casa, Your Casa 2.0 is free to the public and reservations are not required.
Mi Casa, Your Casa 2.0 builds upon the Kravis Center’s objective to amplify connecting communities through the arts and technology by continuing to welcome everyone to experience unique ways of gathering at and engaging with the campus for free and open to all. Recent community activities include the Kravis Center’s second annual Block Party this past October, as well as ongoing weekly programs, such as the dynamic “Live & Social” outdoor concert series on the Kravis Family Plaza, and the stunning photography exhibition, Carasmatic: Through the Lens of a Dancer, located on the second floor of the Cohen Pavilion.
“We are thrilled that Mi Casa, Your Casa 2.0 is arriving just in time for the holiday season. This wonderful installation truly captures the spirit of the Kravis Center as the place for inclusive, creative and stimulating experiences,” said Georgiana Young, Vice President of Marketing and Programming.
Mi Casa, Your Casa created by Esrawe + Cadena is inspired by the mercados of Latin America, lively street markets where human connections are made every day. The installation features a series of three-dimensional red frames that illustrate the warmth, comfort, and safety of our homes. With their basic shape recognizable by all, the tiny houses form a blank canvas for community engagement and activity, where people of all ages can socialize in a playful spirit. The swing invites you to settle comfortably in the small houses and to relax by swaying quietly in a unique environment! When a casa is empty, a welcoming white glow bids you to enter. Once inside, the glow intensifies to show that someone is home.
The swings are made of urban ash! They give a second life to the trees that were cut down by the City of Montreal because of the emerald ash borer.
“We are inspired by ordinary objects that surround us. We are influenced by our context and our everyday activities which allow us to visit and share with different cultures and different individuals. We are inspired by history, art, music, architecture, books and the city itself. We firmly believe that these are the goals of design: To weave and generate interactions, human connections and emotions, to relate to users, and to enhance and translate our inheritance and skills into new expressions.” – Creators Hector Esrawe + Ignacio Cadena
The Kravis Center partnered with Creos on Oscillation in the fall of 2023, making this the second time the two organizations have collaborated.
